The L'Eixample district of Valencia lies just to the south of the historical centre. It is characterised by tree-lined streets, designer boutiques, numerous bars and cafes, and some superb restaurants. A focal point of the area is the impressive Mercado de Colón. Formally a market, this Gaudi-styled Modernist building mixes brick, iron, glass and ceramic tile mosaics to create a striking structure, which now provides cover for a selection of cafes, bars and shops.
